Jackie Sanchez’s range of make-up looks can be credited to her multiple muses. Finding inspiration in music, photography, and fashion (to name a few) Jackie finds contrasts and nuances to expand her talent as a celebrity make up artist. Listening to Amy Winehouse’s CD Frank inspired her to think of a black and white photo of a beautiful girl with a coiffed hairdo and strong red lip, the vegetable isle at a grocery store makes her think of a new color combination and fashion designers like McQueen make her think of new make up looks.
As a child, Jackie’s mom was a glam goddess. “She didn’t just wear clothes, she always had outfits with coordinating handbags, shoes, scarves, belts and jewelry,” Jackie reflects. Taught to see everything cohesively from a young age is important to any make up artist whose talent was work in sync with clothes and hair. Far from one-dimensional, Jackie believes “variety is the spice to life and make up is surely one way we can express that.”
She has a love for the artistic cultural influences of India and the tribal face painting from Africa, as well as the inspiration from genres such as 80’s neon lipstick. “I’m an eighties gal so I am loving all the bright neon colors. Lipsticks and glosses are a great way to wear this trend. TRACE readers should try orange, hot pink, or magenta for a burst of color that’s fun.” She is a make up artist that can pull inspiration from anything and anywhere! That’s why celebrities have been loving her work for years.
She has worked with Diddy, Terrance Howard, Alek Wek and Toni Morrison to name a few and illustrate her range. “My philosophy for men’s make up is that they should look like they have really nice skin… Fortunately Mr. Combs has a great complexion and require minimal cosmetics.” Lets credit his work with Proactiv for that! When asked to describe herself as a makeup artist she states, “I’m an insomniac who puts my extra time to good use” We agree.
