Not Quite What I Was Planning: Six-Word Memoirs by Writers Famous and Obscure
The story goes that Hemingway was asked to write a story in six words, and his response was “For sale: baby shoes, never worn.” With that spirit in mind, SMITH Magazine asked writers to submit their own six word memoirs, and readers of the magazine and celebrities alike submitted their entries in droves. These inspiring little missives are collected in the new book, Not Quite What I Was Planning. There’s Chuck Klosterman’s ponderous “Nobody cared, then they did. Why?”, Amy Sedaris’s bizarre “Mushrooms. Clowns. Wands. Five. Wig. Thatched”, 9 year old Hannah Davies’ touching “Cursed with cancer. Blessed by friends.”, Rip Riley’s contrarian “No Wife. No kids. No problems.”, and many more. Editors and contributors will read their memoirs at McNally on Tuesday, and audience members will be encouraged to share their own. Don’t let your six word memoir be “Should Have Gone to McNally Robinson.”
When French electro “semi-god” duo Justice comes out with a new video, you can expect an exciting series of multi-hued images that will satisfy your eyes’ deepest fantasy. The video for “DVNO” from the “†,” album was directed by none other that Mr So Me. In this 3 minute video, the graphic designer bombards us with a multitude of words in a range of amazing fonts and colors, confirming his compulsive obsession for the art of lettering. Will “DVNO” know the same fate as its predecessor, the now classic “D.A.N.C.E”? I’ll let you judge for yourself…
