At The Break Of Dawn

dawn-shot_5.jpgPacing back and forth was the steady beginning of my morning as I prepared myself for a 1:30 pm interview with Bad Boy Recording artist, Dawn Angelique Richards. I was taken abrupt by the numerous interviews done with her when I noticed that they dealt only one topic, the recent break-up of Danity Kane. On MTV’s Making The Band, Dawn continually portrays herself as a highly motivated and creative individual with a breath-taking ultra sultry voice which without a doubt is absolutely true! Pushing back the curtain of Danity Kane, TRACE tapped into the world of Dawn Angelique Richards.

“I grew up in a household of music, it was like I was thrown into the performing arts,” says Dawn. From being surrounded by the arts at an early age the beautiful Creole/Haitian songwriter, singer and fashion forward entrepreneur was meant to be a star.Influenced by her father who was part of RCA’s group Chocolate Milk and her mother owning a dancing school in New Orleans, she was able to mold her talent into an unstoppable force. Coming from humble beginnings to making MTV’sMaking The Band 3 in 2005, Dawn has continued to stay the down the earth, bubbly girl that everyone knows best.

Danity Kane was actually created in high school. We were asked to draw an alter-ego of ourselves, I was insecure in high school and thought if I could be one bad ass girl, who would it be?” said Dawn. After winning alongside Aubrey O’Day, Aundrea Fimbres, Wanita “D.Woods” Woodgette and Shannon Bex, she brought the idea up. Receiving the approval from the girls and P.Diddy himself, their whirlwind future started.Maintaining to stay true to her dreams, she simply has an aura of positivity.

Exclaiming that her favorite designers are Martin Margiela because of his style and Christopher Kane because of the petals and layers he uses, she laughs while saying “I love fashion, usually I’m a rebel. Many people like it and many people don’t, yet they appreciate the risk I take. I can say I’m a renegade of fashion.”Despite Danity Kane’s recent break-up, Dawn continues to strive with her creative endeavors. Recently releasing Danity Kane comics, Dawn explains “It’s amazing and I am learning how to stay in this industry. Not many artists get a chance to mix music and animation.” Noting that the sky is always the limit, she even has her hopes on someday having Frank Miller (director of 300) direct a Danity Kane inspired movie.

While avoiding answering the situations with Danity Kane – she simply tells me to inform everyone to watch the show and we shall see.
