Youtube Phenomenon Inspires New Musical
This 5 million viewed overnight success hilarious youtube video titled, “Scarlet takes a tumble” has become the inspiration for a new musical. Composed by Sam Willmot the piece was introduced at the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop. It was directed by Anthony Nunizata and stars New York Based actress Erica Jacob as the leading character.
“We’re in a recession, people are losing their jobs and it’s important to have an escape with a good laugh,” says the original Scarlet, “Everybody does stupid stuff and falls…mine was just a little more public that others.
The musical version tells the story of Peg, a 15-year old teen from Birmingham, Alabama, who dreams of achieving stardom as her fantasy diva alter-ego Scarlet. After her unforseen “accident”, she ends up making a bigger impact and becoming a celebrity by being true to herself.
